A burl is a tree’s scar tissue — chaotic, dense, and unpredictable. On the saw it looks like a rock. On the lathe, cut by cut, the grain inside shows itself: swirls and eyes no straight board will ever have.
Most of these blanks come from storm-felled and salvaged trees along the Miramichi. Each vessel is turned green, dried slowly, returned to the lathe, and finished by hand. No two can repeat, because no two trees were hurt the same way.
